Ariel Olivetti has worked on several titles like X-Man, Lobo and many more. Here he talks about his work on DD and some of his other projects.
Kuljit Mithra: Can you give a brief bio of yourself? Where did you grow up and how did you get interested in drawing comics?
Ariel Olivetti: Your readers can obtain my bio in English and Spanish at my personal web site: www.arielolivetti.com
Mithra: Is there a big comics community in your native Argentina? Do people mainly read American comics or the local comics?
Olivetti: There are 3 types of readers in Argentina. 10 year old kids read manga. 20 year olds read American comics and 30 years old read European and Argentinian comics.
Mithra: What were some of the comics you drew in Argentina?
Olivetti: I worked on the comic magazine "FIERRO" making covers. I also worked on my own personal character "El Cazador".
Mithra: When did you start working with Marvel and what title did you draw?
Olivetti: My first job with Marvel was in 1992. I did the "Last Avengers Story".
Mithra: How did the Daredevil job come about for you? Were you a fan of Daredevil?
Olivetti: I don't remember. But I like the character.
Mithra: What was it like to work with Joe Kelly? Was it difficult to work with you in Argentina and Joe Kelly in America?
Olivetti: It was perfect. I knew him before working on DD. So it wasn't difficult at all.
Mithra: How about inker Pier Brito... what was it like working with him?
Olivetti: I don't know... I had some personal problems with his work.
Mithra: What did you like most about drawing Daredevil? What did you dislike about drawing Daredevil?
Olivetti: I didn't get to enjoy my work on DD because in this time I was very busy.
Mithra: What did you think of the Omega Red storyline and the Mr. Fear storyline?
Olivetti: I like these characters!!!
Mithra: Were there any favourite characters you liked to draw while you were the artist on Daredevil?
Olivetti: Yes, Ghost Rider, for sure.
Mithra: Do you prefer pencil art or painting comics?
Olivetti:: Painting comics, absolutely.
Mithra: What has been your favourite comic work that you have done?
Olivetti: The Lobo comics with Etrigan
Mithra: Were you disappointed the Satana series never got published?
Olivetti: Yes, this was going to be an interesting project.
Mithra: Do you think Marvel was correct in cancelling X-Man? How was it working with Steven Grant?
Olivetti: I think that X-Man was a lot more adult than the other X-books. Steven Grant is great!!
Mithra: And the last question, can you say anything about your upcoming DC work, or is that still a secret? Any other upcoming work you can talk about?
Olivetti: The project is still a secret but I can say to you that this is a big project with aliens and JLA and the story is spectacular!
