Uri Geller, the famed 'psychic' or psychic (it depends on if you believe him) appeared in an issue of Daredevil in the 70's and was kind enough to answer a few of my questions about it and his 'abilities'.
Kuljit Mithra: How is it best to describe your abilities?
Uri Geller: Paranormal, MindPower, supernatural.
Mithra: At what age did you sense you had these abilities and what were the events surrounding it?
Geller: I was four years old when a spoon bent and broke in my hand, I was sitting in my mothers kitchen. I was struck by a beam of light shortly before that, see 'My Story' - my book on the web site www.tcom.co.uk/hpnet/books.htm
Mithra: How do you convince people who do not believe you have 'powers'?
Geller: I usually never try to convince people who are closed-minded. In my opinion they have missed the boat.
Mithra: How do you defend yourself against allegations that you are a fraud?
Geller: If they attack me in an extremely vicious, libellous and defamatory way I turn it over to my attorneys.
Mithra: In the 70's, you made an appearance in Daredevil. How did this come about?
Geller: If I am not mistaken I met Stan Lee in New-York and that's how it started.
Mithra: Did you have any input into the story? If so, what elements?
Geller: To the best of my recollection I told them events that happened in my life. They probably used that as the basis for the story. As far as I know I am the only living person turned into a character for Daredevil comics. Correct me if I am wrong. [Note: Jann Wenner, editor of Rolling Stone magazine, appeared in issue 100 before Geller's appearance.]
Mithra: What kind of positive reaction did you receive from this appearance?
Geller: Hundreds of letters.
Mithra: Negative reaction?
Geller: One or two letters.
Mithra: Have you always been a comics fan? What are your favourite titles and characters?
Geller: Thor was my most beloved character.
Mithra: I got in contact with you through the Internet. Has this new medium helped you in 'spreading the word' about your organization?
Geller: The Internet is a great avenue for letting people know about paranormal events, books, general information, picture galleries, polls, games and press reports.
Mithra: Do you consider your abilities to be scientific or magical?
Geller: Magical in the old sense of the word.
Mithra: What are your future plans? Any new clients that require your services that you can discuss?
Geller: Read my biography on www.tcom.co.uk/hpnet/uribiog.htm. My projects on it are more or less up to date. I just completed my new novel Ella publication date 12th March 1998. I have just had a science fiction story published in the March issue of Interzone magazine funded by the Arts Council of England. In a few days it will be on my web site.
