Issue SummarySummary by Gloria PortaDaredevil sits on top of a building focusing his enhanced sense of hearing, in order to locate Larry Cranston's (Mr. Fear) voice. It is not easy but he finally gets it. Then he leaps forward. At a dingy bar in Hell's Kitchen, Mr. Fear and the Hood confer. The Hood asks Fear why he sought war with him, as an alliance would have been no doubt more fruitful for both. Cranston confesses he just started a war in Hell's Kitchen to annoy Matt Murdock, and that he now gladly relinquishes control over the neighbourhood to the Hood. In the Hood's practical scheme of things, this seems a bit far-fetched:, but he realizes that, if all what Fear wants is a showdown with Daredevil, that's Fear's own affair. Matt reaches the place where Fear is waiting for him: Fear is not hiding, and even laughs loudly at the suffering he has caused to Milla and Matt. Matt cracks and lets his anger go. Mr. Fear's power no longer stops him: he's too angry to feel afraid. Cranston is no match, physically, in spite of his training. But he's not afraid, either, of what Matt can do to him: in fact, as Matt beats him, he sports a smile. Matt asks a battered, defeated Cranston to give him the antidote to the drug that has driven Melvin Potter and Milla crazy. Cranston gloats and takes the card he's been keeping up his sleeve: there's no such thing as a cure. He killed his mad chemist genius, Dante V. Govich, to make sure that there would be no cure. And the worse is that Matt can't go to far in his retaliation, as Cranston tells him, he'll need his confession to get Milla out of jail. Cranston confesses everything (safe his knowledge of Matt Murdock's secret ID) to Detective Kurtz. From the other side of the glass, Matt, Foggy and Assistant DA Algren watch with a bleak expression in their faces. Five days later Matt and Foggy leave Milla in a clinic where she will be taken care of. Dakota tells them that Lily Lucca is nowhere to be found. Matt ponders gloomily while Foggy and Dakota wait by the car in order to leave: "I ruined her life, Foggy..." he says. Cranston's incarceration at Ryker's is hardly a punishment: he's got in his body the same chemicals of Lily's pheromone perfume, so everyone (inmates and officers) does his best to please him. He knows he can get out whenever he wants to, and strike at Matt again: life's so good. Matt sits alone in his room. He's being watched by the Hood. The Hood is impressed by the blow delivered by Mr. Fear, though he thinks it wise not to move things around Hell's Kitchen for a while, letting Matt delude himself thinking that at least he's accomplished one thing. |
