Profile written by: Kuljit Mithra

In his youth, Samuel "Starr" Saxon discovered one of Doctor Doom's damaged Servobots abandoned in a subway tunnel. He brought the robot home and studied it piece by piece for months. A year later, he began to construct his own robot. When his mother called his passion for his work unhealthy and threatened to get rid of the robot, Saxon killed her and made her death look like a laboratory accident. He used the insurance money to further his research on robotics.

For the next five years, Saxon worked on robot after robot, each one more sophisticated than the last. He was asked by mob boss Biggie Benson to build a robot to kill Daredevil. The robot nearly succeeded, but Daredevil outwitted the machine. After the battle, one of the robot tracers wound up in Matt Murdock's apartment. As a result, Saxon learned Murdock was Daredevil. With the help of the Black Panther, Daredevil apprehended Saxon. With no hard criminal evidence against him, however, Saxon was released.

To toy with Daredevil, Saxon killed the original Mr. Fear, Zoltan Drago, and assumed his identity. Saxon attacked Daredevil, only to fall off his hovercraft in battle, falling to his death. Saxon, though, had robots stationed in the area. The robots carried his body back to his lab and encoded the contents of his brain into a computer. The robots then downloaded Saxon's brain into a newly designed robot. When Saxon awoke in his new body, he called himself the Machinesmith and created additional robots to further his criminal enterprises. In his new guise, Saxon has encountered the Thing and Captain America, and has worked with the Red Skull.
