03/31 - Oscar Isaac Wanted to Play Daredevil

Something I re-discovered while going through some of my old news sections...

In 2008, FOX was considering a plan to revive the Daredevil movie franchise. Ben Affleck had already publicly announced he would never return to the role.

Actor Jason Statham, while promoting DEATH RACE at Comic Con, said he'd be interested. Frank Miller, who was attending the show as well while promoting THE SPIRIT, approved of Statham as Matt Murdock.

But... there was another actor who threw his hat into the ring. He wasn't as well-known at the time. He was a co-star in the Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio movie BODY OF LIES.

Speaking with the Splash Page blog on MTV.com (remember that site?), Oscar Isaac declared his love of the character and jokingly described the lengths he would go to for the role.

“Daredevil is such an amazing character, I would love to do that,” Isaac said. “I’m not going to rag on the other Daredevil, but I would actually make myself blind for the role, that’s how much I want to do it. I would poke my eyes out, and then you would have an actual blind guy playing Daredevil. That would be my pitch. That’s where I’m starting at. Maybe I’ll rework it a little later, but I’m going to go with actually being blind. I would die to be in a comic book movie.”

Isaac, of course, currently plays Moon Knight, and was also Apocalypse. But do you think he would have been a good Daredevil?
