I've read issues 1 n' 2, and so far, I like the story, I like the art. Comicbookresources.com just gave issue 3 a 3 star review, and since the review says "Recent past Daredevil stories like "End of Days" and "Shadowland" have been excellent", I start to think, man this must suck, or, it's the greatest story ever.
Because, come on, how can Shadowland be excellent? And End of Days... To me, this reviewer is just... I dunno...

This series felt like a true Daredevil story. I haven't enjoyed Daredevil since Ed Brubaker left. |

It is a simple yet very well written story!! I've enjoyed #2 more than #1!!! For me is a nice DD story!! Nothing more, nothing less... _________________

I think the third issue was the best. Lee Weeks has proven he's one of the best Daredevil artists ever. As for the story, it's good in that's it's a classic "Daredevil never gives up..." tale. It's more classical Daredevil compared to what Waid's doing on the main book, but I love Waid's work so much. I am, however, excited to read Lapham's story, because I really enjoyed Daredevil vs. Punisher, and am stoked by the sight of the Shocker.
And anyone who says that Shadowland was "excellent," is obviously doing public relations for Marvel. I suspect some sites are reluctant to write bad reviews, because they want Marvel and other publishers and stores to buy ad space. They don't want to rock the boat, which makes them irrelevent. |

Yeah, I buy that. Makes sense. |

Agreed. Sadly, I feel like this is basically the case with a lot of geek or nerd websites. It seems to me that geeks are the kind of people who "geek out" over things. I.e. desperately hunt down every detail about a subject. Some sites (comicbookresources, IGN) are wicked at supplying details because they have exclusive access to previews, interviews, etc.. The downside is that they barely ever bite the hand that feeds so their reviews can get surreal. _________________ JC

Agreed. What I found with all these comics websites/blogs is that they follow some sort of rule: is something is hyped enough, then it is good, no matter if it sucks. I think that they are genuinely aware that not always what's hyped is good, but they still say it's good and praise it because they seem to be afraid to "anger" the comic book industries who created the hype. |

Dark nights has been enjoyable, I don't think the plot is the deepest thing I've ever read but it's still ok. The main thing is the artwork by Lee Weeks, he used to be a good artist but now he's even better, he's only gotten greater with age. Since it's highly doubtful we'll ever see David Mazzuchelli draw DD again, this is definetly the next best thing to it and I'll take it.
Speaking of Shadowland, I finally broke down and bought the main trade of it a couple of weeks ago (all I had read of it we're the main Daredevil issues of it) and my take of it was that it reminded me of a big summer action movie. A lot of excitement, a lot of action but at the end of it all not much plot. Like Michael Bay had decided to write a comic story. I'm not sure whether this was the intention of Andy Diggle when he did this or he just dropped the ball at coming up with a deep and interesting plot. |

You know, I loved the premise on Shadowland. When Brubaker's run ends, you're left kind of in shock. At least I was. And I enjoyed The Devil's Hand. I think if there wasn't so many tie-ins, it could of been great.
I read the whole event after I collected the trades, all of them, and then I read it all in order (or the closest I could come to a real order), and I just kind of lose interest between these extra stories. I think the only tie-in I kind of liked was the Blood On The Streets. Street Heroes was ok, and I dunno, I think I fell asleep in Moon Knight and Thunderbolts. Powerman was... ok. Not the worst, but not good either.
Would of been nice if Marvel had put all of Shadowland and The Devil's Hand in a trade or two. A well organized trade!
Something similar to how they handled Spider Island. |
