It is me nitpicking, or I see innacuracies in the roll-call of Matt's ex-girlfriends? _________________ Gloria

I think you're right. The roll call doesn't make sense chronologically (as they first appeared in his life) or numerically (as they first appeared in the comic book). I don't think it matters, though.
What I find interesting about the article is the following:
i) Glorianna is mentioned! Maybe all that campaigning we did on this board gave her an elevated status.
ii) Despite the claims by some people on this board to the contrary, when it comes to the way he treats women Matt Murdock can be an awful cad! Granted, his selections often leave something to be desired (a drug-addicted porn star, a ninja assassin, a psychotic), he nonetheless abandons them (Heather, Glorianna), cheats on them (Karen), sends them to asylums (Typhoid Mary) and patronizes them (Natasha).
iii) It's a very good primer about the Daredevil Women.

I cannot edit the thread title, but obviously it should say "inaccurate". Sorry for the typo!

Sorry, I didn't put it, as it was in the News section at the home page. However, here it is:

The truth is, his relationships with women seem bound to be troubled. His most stable relationship with anyone is Foggy Nelson, and surely because Foggy has the patience and understanding of ole man Job.

Well, it wasn't the chronology that bothered me. just some generalizations/simplifications and, well, goofs, like saying that Karen went straight to do porn and be a junkie: in fact, and up to Born Again, karen was seen doing less... "adult" and more legitimate entertainment (TV, horror movies): it is to be deduced that she might have ended in porn after failing in more straightforward acting, and then becoming an addict to endure the stress of "adult" filmaking. The short text almost leaves her like a worthless slut, as in the infamous Smith version.
Matt didn't get Elektra's dad killed. he tried to save his life, in fact.
I seriously doubt that Natasha and Matt would ever have a fight about their respective Registered/Non-Registered status. La Nati's had her rows with Matt, but she's not the kind of person who would handle him to Stark. I honestly doubt that Natasha would be in any way instrumental to lock Matt in the Negative Zone prison.
The statement that Heather "cheated on Matt again and again"... WHEN??!?!? At most, Matt and Heather would have a row, then Heather would go to a High Society party and Matt go vigilanting, in a not dissimilar way in which girls go to the movies while her boys prefer to stay at home watching sports. In the party, Rico and other playboys would flirt with her, but... actual cheating? nopes, as I remember it.
Plus, she didn't blabber about DD's secret ID before they broke up, but time afterwards. It could be said that, on occasion, a "Matt!" would escape from her throat when DD was fighting the Hulk, but then Natasha calls DD "Matt" all the time.

Well, that's nice! Though this possibly means... she'll stay dead... *sniff*
O'Breen goofs in the article: she wasn't killed by the Kingpin, but by a former associate of Fisk who wanted to get his hands on Fisk, too! Anyway, the inaccuracy here is understatable as it takes a strong stomach to re-read that AWFUL story that ended in a two pannel stunt the life of our dear red-headed colleen reporter
It is curious that it isn't mentioned that Foggy and Glorianna became a couple later... Of course, the article deals with Matt's love life, and not Foggy's, but still... it's odd that Nelson is mentioned as "Uncle in law" and not as a lover. Mmmmh..

Matt hasn't killed any of his girls: Bullseye, Kruel and others have done so.
Though, yes, he's sure a dangerous guy to date. _________________ Gloria

perhaps he should have a warning from the U.S. Surgeon General tattooed onto his forehead.
"Warning: Dating this man may be hazardous to your health." |

I would like to know the opinion of ed brubaker on the sentence from the marvel site.
Like you, I really disagree on it. It remind me of the kevin smith stupidity ( and the alan smithee disaster which was even more infamous ). I'm really really tired of the whole " every girlfriend that Matt had have to die ". If it become the standart, then the title will become really boring ( where is the creator freedom of creativity ? )
What is interesting with ed brubaker is that he can undo what he did ( and I'm pretty must sure he or someone other will use the reset button one day ). But during this time, the situation may allowed him to write some interesting stories and character studies ( which is so great with DD ) |

What is interesting about the "Milla situation" (for lack of a better word) is that Brubaker has managed to kill the girl (metaphorically) without killing her, thus being able to tell an even more shocking tale than if he had, in fact, killed her. Also, the more I think about it, the more I'm beginning to suspect that Milla will be brought back by Brubaker himself. What he has done now is actually pretty clever. Matt is heartbroken and "sorta, kinda, but not really" single, and now living on his own, which opens him up to new kinds of stories that can't be told with Milla around (for one reason or another). At the same time, her absence will continue to be important, and Matt is forced to deal with a new situation he hasn't been in before. What I think will begin with the next few issues is Bru rebuilding Matt's life (he's gone as far as he possibly can tearing it down), a process which might culminate with Milla's return somewhere down the line. At which point Bru or some future writer will put him through the wringer again... Well, that's my little theory anyway. That would also be yet another way to avoid the clichés surrounding Matt's love life in that he might have someone return from (a spiritual) death to be with him once again. That would be a nice change of pace after all the dead girlfriends. *keeping fingers crossed*
And while we're on the topic of #106, am I the only one really not liking the art here? _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

you're not the only one. I don't like the art either. ( why is foggy looking like some ugly monster ? )
As for Milla, the reset button seems pretty simple and logical. everything began with vanessa fisk and everything will end with her, in one way or another. Maybe isn't she dead and maybe has her doctor found a way to revert her condition ( which I think is due to Cranston himself. In fact, what was killing her, if it wasn't her worst fear being true, having killed her own son. Prettty much the mister fear modus operandi, isn't it ? ) So the cure for vanessa fisk is also a cure for Milla.
But yes, as I have said, it allowed Ed brubaker to write some interesting things. I also believed that it will allowed Matt to slowly rebuilt his life after some questionning about himself.
In fact, being assaulted and bitten only to return wiser and stonger is so " daredevilish " since born again.
Maybe ( I dream but it is possible ) it could be a good way to bring back typhoid mary. The character has never been exploited at her true potential since Nocenty. I never knew why until I figured out one or two week ago. All the writer have only focused on typhoid. Yes, it's cool to have a murderess psychopath who killed men by kissing her. But what made her so interesting was her counterpart, mary walker.
All the writer ( bendis included ) have tried to suppress the mary walker personna. It's a failure because it removed her her most important part. She's not only a villian, she's a very tragic character first !
Mary walker is so sweet, sensitive and good that it's heartbreaking to have her becoming such a man hater monster.
And typhoid isn't saying some incoherent stupidities like in bendis run. She's only a slutty and provocative sado masochistic murderess who had orgasms only when she kills. It is I think allready crazy and horrible without writting her even crazier.
imagine if she return with her mary walker personna. terrified and vulnerable. with Matt dealing with milla, he could be in serious trouble.
And what if she is controlled mentally by killgrave ( no way that she can accept to work with such a rapist by her own wish, but purple man has the direct control of mind controlling, whereas mister fear can only boost the emition with his drug, causing a " surcharge " in the brain and then crazyness. In no way he can directly have an acces to the control of the thought like our purple friend. I'm pretty sure that purple man can, instead of cranston, blocking the personnalities of typhoid mary. What if he obliged her to be permanently mary walker ? )
I'm pretty sure that Matt could have a serious dilemn... Can he succumb another time ? ( he suffers so much with the loss of Milla )
And what if killgrave did it only to have Matt out of the picture for a while ( and not simply trying to destroy his life. Killgrave is not obsessed with matt like cranston, he is only a selfish and totally amoral hedonian only concern by his own pleasure )
So he can slowly build his small " empire " in hell's kitchen when matt is dealing with milla and Mary.
And in the end of course he will loose the control of the impredictible girl only to have Typhoid beat him. |
