Quote: | Shouldn't Batman be out fighting crime instead of watching ...
|
Better yet, shouldn't he run Wayne enterprises? Or hang out with the justice league?
But this is completely secondary to what I'm saying anyway. Suppose, for the heck of it, that Batman becomes obsessed with Daredevil for whatever storyline reason.
Quote: | 1) DD fight and 2) Matt Murdock talking to reporters (the fact that Matt is making the SAME moves while fighting Mr. Hyde and talking with reporters is kind of odd, though). |
In fact, I didn't say that.
I said that Batman checks different videos searching for any clues that can either suggest (not prove, mind you):
1) that Murdock reacts slightly differently than an ordinary blind man, or
2) that Daredevil fights slightly differently than a vigilante who relies on sight and ordinary senses.
(notice that it's very different from the interpratation you gave above)
the chance that Batman would notice something suspicious is really high, because he's a keen observer and detective.
Quote: | How Bats deciphers super senses and a radar with these two videos is beyond me, though. What did Alfred put in the coffee?? |
He doesn't. He crosses these suspicions with the informations regarding Matt's accident and his subsequent blindness.
Then, like any scientist, he makes suppositions, and then experiments to prove them.
Don't say that it's impossible, because it's not.
He builds a portable generator of Hypersonics. Not necessarily capable to harm DD, simply one that can produce sound just above the spectrum of audible frequencies.
He goes to a place where Murdock is, turns it on for a moment, and observes. He repeats, for further confirmation.
And his suspicions are confirmed.

Yes, I recall the Black panther story (BTW, he's not been seen in the series in along time). It was a better ruse than the Mike Murdock affair.
Still, I think that Matt was occasionally, hum, a bit too casual about his secret ID.
Blacktyphoid Superman comparison was very interesting. _________________ Gloria

blacktyphoid wrote: | The on-going Batman/Daredevil comparisons/similarities are age-old, and interesting. However, for my hard earned sheckles, I would argue that Daredevil more closely resembles Superman than Batman.
How so? Well, Daredevil must mask his supersenses, especially his all seeing radar, in order to convince the world he is blind, much like Superman must mask his superpowers to convince the world he is merely mortal. To play down superpowers of any kind must be the hardest thing for a superhero to do. One little slip, in any which way, and the jigg's up. Even though Matt's blind, he must always be conscious of the fact that he has to fake his blindness. He's got to be constantly tapping that cane, pretending to occasionally walk in a gingerly manner and purposely, rather than accidentally, bumping into desks. Imagine that, he's got to occasionally be hurting himself. And what about Clark Kent when he's having sex? Think about it...
How liberating it must be for Matt to dispense with the act and become Daredevil and Clark Kent to become Superman. |
And they both wear letters on their chest. _________________ Andrew |

Have you read the news? Issue 100 has sold out! yesssiree!!
And this has been accomplished without the excess of hype of other Marvel events, and without having a major character killed.
I hope this brings new readership to Ol' Hornhead. Even if some Mr. Smith once said that Old DD followers just wanted to keep the character to us "sanctimonious few", I'll be only too glad that new fans join the Devil worship. The more we are, the better _________________ Gloria

Well said. lol
I wonder why Marvel doesn't have any plans on going back to press with this issue? Earlier this summer when the Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special sold out (also without excess hype or the killing of 'major' characters) DC sent it back to press for not one, but two more printings. There could be even greater sales with DD #100 if Marvel were to do the same. _________________ Andrew |

I don't know of their plans, but a new reprint of the issue would be a good idea once that those issues still left in retail are sold out, too.
Or maybe they just won't reprint it to make people mad about getting the trade... who knows? _________________ Gloria

Yeah that's a good point. They might feel like there is already enough material out there. With the Sinestro Corps Special they reprinted the same cover twice though, except with different colour schemes (like in black and white). So Marvel could still do something similar. They don't have to print even more new cover art. _________________ Andrew |

Given all the great stuff they packed into that 100th issue (original 36 page story, three great original covers, substantial contributions by classic DD artists, two great Gene Colan reprints, copies of original art and the cover development process, the issue deserved to be sold out. Cudos to Marvel for going the extra mile. They were justly rewarded for the effort.
That said, I can't help but wish the so-called varient cover issues contained something more to separate them from the non-varient issue than just simply the covers. (Mind you, given that the so-called non-varient issue contained a wrap-around cover, one could argue that it was the most varient of the three covers. But I digress...) If you're going to go the extra mile to purchase two additional issues - and the fact that the book sold out seems to indicate that many fans DID indeed go the extra mile - I wish the varient books included other interesting elements to make them even more worthwhile to purchase. I'm not complaining about it...I'm just stating a desire.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the estimated sales numbers are? I imagine that we won't know that for a while yet, but if we knew approximately how many copies were originally ordered we could reasonably guess. _________________ Andrew |

I haven't seen the estimated numbers yet myself, but my shop ordered over twice as many issues as usual and we sold out. I don't know if that pattern holds up across the country, but we were sure we ordered enough. Luckily, we caught a few damage replacements a few days later and still have a couple first prints.
That aside, I finally got a chance to read the issue and enjoyed every page. The mix of the art styles added some perspective to Matt's mindset, of scenes that didn't match the next moment, etc.
Great stuff.
This Bru/Lark and crew run thus far, in my humble estimation, is the best DD since Miller.
