No matter how they try to justify it, relaunching at #1 is ALWAYS a gimmick. Volume 1 went 380 issues with huge changes, moves to San Francisco and Hell, and it never needed to go back to #1. I can't say I'm excited about the move to San Francisco, but I've enjoyed Waid's work so far. I'll pick it up, but this is cheap. |

I feel like sites like The Nerdist are exactly why this kinda stuff keeps happening. Their coverage of the news sounds like a press release:
Quote: | Along with Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil was one of the few Marvel series not to reboot as part of the Marvel NOW! initiative. However, given the state of affairs in Matt Murdock’s life and his impending change of scenery, now seemed like a natural time to make the transition. To take you deeper inside this supremely exciting news, I caught up with Mark Waid... |
A change in Matt's fictional life means that it's a "natural" time to change the numbers on the real life comic? What? As Dimetre points out, Matt's life has changed a lot with no renumbering. And "supremely exciting news"? What are they talking about?
Of course, the site got an exclusive interview and some art from the upcoming relaunch so I guess they have to act excited but them simply passing on the hype they are spoon fed is just embarrassing. _________________ JC

I'm excited that Waid and Samnee are staying on the title but I can do without the relaunch. It's a money-grabbing move by Marvel which I find frustrating. |

Volume 1 was 380 issues. Volume 2 was 132 issues which is roughly 35% of volume 1. Volume 3 was 36 Issues which 27% of volume 2. The good news is that if we assume the same rate of reduction (i.e. that the number of issues in each volume is reduced by a percentage that is itself reduced by 77% each volume) Volume 4 will be 7 issues and Volume 5 will be 1 issue!
So once we're through Volume 4 we'll get a new #1 every month! I'm not sure what they'll do at that point. Maybe we'll get new volumes within a single issue! Pages 1-15 will be Volume 6 #1 and 16-24 will be Volume 7 #1! Double #1s! _________________ JC

I won't be able to post this until tonight, so here's the press release Marvel sent out:
Superstar Storytellers MARK WAID & CHRIS SAMNEE Re-Team for DAREDEVIL #1!

New York, NY – November 26th, 2013 – You just can’t keep the Man Without Fear down! Matt Murdock makes his All-New Marvel NOW! debut with an exciting new monthly series starting with Daredevil #1 this March!
Beloved by critics and fans alike, Eisner-Award winning storytellers Mark Waid (Captain America, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Samnee (Thor: The Mighty Avenger) re-team to take Marvel’s fearless hero in a bold new direction – starting with a move to The City by the Bay!
Spinning out of the groundbreaking new Infinite Comic series Daredevil: Road Warrior, Daredevil #1 marks a new start for Matt Murdock. Armed with an imperceptible radar sense and a passion for justice – the blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen is ready to make his mark on the Golden City’s streets. But, San Francisco local vigilante, The Shroud is already keeping the street safe – and he’s not ready to share the spotlight!
Big changes are in store for the Man Without Fear – as old haunts and familiar faces emerge ready to give the devil his due!
“Mark and Chris (along with Javier Rodriguez and Joe Caramagna) have made history on Daredevil over the past couple years,” said Senior Editor Stephen Wacker. “But their new plans for the Man Without Fear are their most exciting yet. My worst fears realized. The worst creative team ever on DD remains, apparently forever. (There has probably been worse writing in 50 years, but no one has drawn the comic like Archie before). DD has been my last consistent connection to comics, but it's been years now since I've been able to stand more than sporadic painful visits. I'll probably throw in a few complaints now and then for old times sake, but it looks like it's time to move on in life. |

I don't think it's directly related to sites like the Nerdist or press, really.
Like Captain Marvel was less than 20 issues in and it's getting re-launched for similar reasons. |

But I mean relaunches for sale purposes generally. Marvel relaunches because they are depending on a hype boost and places like The Nerdist are all too happy to hype things to the ceiling. I mean, is this really "supremely exciting"? _________________ JC

"dark, horrific" vs. "lots of laughs." Given that Waid's definition of horrific is Matt walking around without a head, I wonder if he knows the difference. It's hard to believe this is the writer of Kingdom Come. Nice to see the Ross cover, being a real fan of his, though that focus on Matt's nether parts also shows what Ross's detractors don't like about him.
As for #1 hype, yeah, but just ignore it (except the price). I don't get this from a sales view though. Who cares that he's moving to SF or that it's #1 yet again ? Keeping the same team and aesthetic won't bring in new readers or bring back old ones, so it seems like a lost opportunity.
And Sandman? I just said he's fought the whole Sinister Six except Sandman. I was not hoping to be a prophet on that. |

I'm really sorry to read so many board members who don't like the current iteration of DD.
I quite enjoy it. (And this is coming from a guy who loved Bendis and Brubaker...)
I guess my biggest disappointment with this current run was Marcos Martin only drew three issues.
