Daredevil Message Board The Board Without Fear!
|
The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

It seems like with the defeat of Bullseye, that the Sons of Serpent are now the main villains of the title. The Sons of Serpent are different from other villains that DD has fought, they are not motivated by greed like Kingpin or love of bloodshed like Bullseye. Instead they are motivated by ideology, as vile as their beliefs are, they believe they are in the moral right. They are like a MU version of the KKK. But similar to Kingpin, they can spread their influence to other more legitimate sectors of society.
What do you think of them as villains so far? They have appeared in other parts of the MU in the past, starting in the Avengers book, do you think they were good villains in some of their past stories? Do you think there will be a big revelation as to their leader really is? |

I don't like them. Using white supremacists who infiltrate the government as comic book bad guys perpetuates the popular (and false) leftist stereotype that the government is institutionally racist against non-whites. If one wants to believe that, fine, but I don't want to see it in my comic book, where I go to escape politics and other real-world unpleasantries. Like someone having cancer. I don't like that thread either. So if it's true that Mr. Waid is moving on to greener pastures after issue 36, I think I'll be a happier Daredevil reader. |

Fair enough, although let's face it comic books have often dealt with social issues in the past. X-Men is about civil rights and bigotry, Iron Man is often about the proliferation of weapons and what that means for the world and Stan Lee got into trouble with the Comic Code for writing an issue of Spider-Man that dealt with drug abuse, even though the government asked him to write an story dealing with drugs.
So I don't have a problem with a writer dealing with a real world issue in a comic book, how well that message is presented of course can make a story engaging or just preachy, but that is often matter of individual taste. |
