So, what does everyone think of that news?

Of course, I think it's going to be relaunched right away, because they seriously have to have a DAREDEVIL book on the stands for its 50th anniversary.

Just seems too soon to do a relaunch.

If Waid is leaving I don't understand why they just can't put a new creative team on the book without renumbering it? But if he does leave I want Jason Aaron or Rick Remender on

At last. hopefully we'll get a new team with an artist who doesn't fill issues with cameos and easter-eggs and is darker and edgier like Lark or Maleev were, and we can see someone showing Daredevil get his revenge on Mister Fear and less of the silly Foggy-Matt bromance.

There, I said it.

I could not be less concerned.

It's just going to be re-launched. The series critically well-received and award-winning. I could be wrong, but isn't it selling well? I can't imagine them cancelling it and that's not just because I'm a fan.

X-Factor recently had it's last issue...except wait, it's going to be re-launched with All New Marvel Now. It's the same with Captain Marvel and that didn't even hit issue 20.

It's going to be re-launched with a new number 1, because those sell well. Maybe a new number 1 and a different title. And then they'll revert back to the original numbering a few months later. Yaay!

From what I heard, DD is still selling well. Knowing that the serie is critically acclaimed, that Waid and Samnee said that "some very interesting things are planned", that a Marvel editor told us that we "will have our DD fix", and that next year is the 50th anniversary, I have the very strange feeling that it will be a relaunch, probably with the same team.

I bet that there will be a renumbering with a "big event" and a big change in the statu quo in the "fall from grace" style to boost the sales (and celebrate the 50th anniversary).

All New Daredevil. Same creative team. Slightly new plot points. For sure.

At this point it's just tilting at windmills but this whole renumbering thing is stupid. We're going to have a Daredevil Vol. 4? Vol. 4? It's just random at this point.

I agree plus I think they'll change the price to 3.99

My feelings exactly. By the end of Volume 3, there will have been 548 issues of Daredevil. I was hoping Volume 3 would have gotten up to 88 issues so we could have reverted back to the original numbering at issue #600. But what should I have expected when they cancelled Volume 2 at issue 512? (Even if it did clear the air after Shadowland.)

Renumbering is a gimmick, and I'm sick of gimmicks. I wish the top brass at Marvel would forget about their crossover events and stunts, and just focus on telling compelling stories. At least their doing a slightly better job of that than DC.

If they keep Waid and Samnee on the title, relaunching makes even less sense. But hey, they relaunched Captain America at #1 when the first movie came out, even though Brubaker had been writing the book for several years. Maybe they'll bring on a new flashy artist on the book for the first arc, someone who takes a year to draw a single issue, and then we'll get Samnee back.

I remember days when readers would just pick up an issue regardless of the number, just to try out a series they haven't read before. Hell, Daredevil #223 was my first issue. But with decompressed stories and the phenomenon of "writing for the trade," I guess it's become more prohibitive to try out a single issue of a book unless it's clearly identified as "a jumping on point." I suppose Marvel's ".1" experiments weren't roaring successes. Perhaps we should get used to relaunches every two or three years.

Update on DD's status from an interview with Axel Alonso

Lastly for the week, we had a Halloween-focused issue of "Daredevil," and before we get to the story, it appears the book will be ending with issue #36. Say it ain't so, Axel!

Alonso: All good things come to an end.

I think Waid might actually be leaving. Does this interest you fellow Hornhead fans?

This damn well better mean Waid and Samnee are leaving. I know it's a love/hate thing with fans, but really, time for a change. No more Matt walking around without a head, Hank Pym walking out of his ear, and cavorting with space aliens. And enough cartoon artwork. And enough celibacy.
I don't necessarily want pure gangster noir. Nocenti did a great fantasy stories without getting into absurdities, and never forgot Matt's love life. Speaking of which, whatever he does with her then, the next writer has to get Milla out of that asylum. And maybe pull BW from the Avengers U a bit.

At first I thought that Marvel was pulling a fast one but now it's really starting to look like Waid may be telling his last Daredevil story. He has been on him for awhile now and maybe he might come back for the anniversary along with some past creators of the series but i'm starting to feel like the sons of the serpent story is his finale which is more than fine by me.And yes ann Nocenti's Daredevil rocked, a lot of people only remember her Typhoid Mary stuff but it was good way before Mary was introduced.

As much as I do enjoy and defend Waid/Samnee's run, if the series did go back to its more noir-ish/darker ways I would not be upset.

Andy Diggle's run and Shadowland just left a bad taste in my mouth, I think. I almost gave up on the series for good until I heard the reviews of Volume 3.

Now I'm wondering what kind of crazy situation Waid will leave him in for the next writer to deal with. Brubaker did a great follow-up when Bendis left him in jail, but Diggle made a travesty out of Brubaker's leader of The Hand set-up.
