What kind of stories should be written about Matt Murdock's legal career?
In the new DD# 1, Matt decided he could no longer be a trial lawyer because of the media circus around his alter ego and decided to prepare his clients for defending themselves, is that the best direction for Matt or should be he a trial lawyer again?
I think it be interesting if Matt had a legal rival, perhaps an ADA who constantly goes up against Matt. Also I think it would be interesting if NYC had new, secretly corrupt, DA. Matt's faith in the legal system could be again tested, if the DA himself was corrupt. |

| I'll be happy for the next while with Matt preparing his clients to defend themselves in court. It's a noble act in that he's looking out for the little guy, but I think in a year or so he'll have to step back inside a courtroom and confront someone too big for his client to handle. |

I think Matt has good intentions, but it seems like someone who gets a crash course in the law would often get destroyed by an experienced lawyer. That's why most people want their lawyer in court.
Anyway I think there is more drama and story telling potential with Matt in the court room. Frankly I don't think the writers have used Matt's status as a lawyer as much as they could in terms of story telling potential. I always felt the fact that Matt never really had a creditable reoccurring legal rival was a missed opportunity. |

A legal rival in the courtroom for Matt would be a good idea, providing a new focus for that side of his life.
Of course, every time I consider that idea, I can't help but think of that same poor schmuck that always faced off against and lost every week to Perry Mason.  |

Well the legal rival should be Matt's league so Matt should lose some cases to him or her, once a while.
Becky Blake parted company with Matt on bad terms, so it might be interesting if she became an ADA and became Matt's legal rival. Blake could be a well meaning ADA who's bad blood with Matt colors her judgment, while her boss, NYC's new district attorney, is truly corrupt and villainous. That would be more dramatic then some loser Matt constantly beats. |

Recently started with Waid's run and I enjoy his swashbuckling take on DD.
I am also intrigued with the idea of Matt providing legal council than defence.
My question to you guys is are there any collections where the lawyer aspect of Matt is a primary focus??? |

Not really. The truly awful "Playing to the Camera" focused a bit more on the law but that's all I can think of in recent history.
Nocenti's run emphasized the legal aspect of Matt but, ironically, that was when he wasn't a lawyer. It's weird that people seem to forget this but during Nocenti's run Matt was running a community legal storefront where he would give people legal advice but not represent them in Court (because he couldn't). It's basically the same thing he's doing now.

"Trial of the Century" is a three-part story by Brian Bendis which focuses on a court case. It's either collected as part of Out or Hardcore, but the issues are definitely in a trade paperback.
I believe the first two issues, pencilled by Manuel Guitterez, feature some astounding writing by Bendis (who I normally dread). However, I hate the ending of the third issue.
Nevertheless, it focuses on Matt's legal career.
Another story collected in trade you might be interested in is Daredevil: Redemption. It's well-written, although, again, the ending may rub people the wrong way. |
