Miller did great work in with this run (158-191) but it is not even comparable to Born Again.
I'll pass on this one, but let me know when there is a Nocenti, Stan Lee or Gene Colan Omnibus and I'm there!

Best news this week no doubt!
I am SOO on this like a fly on shhhhh- nevermind.
This has to be OVERSIZED! I am just so happy that I stayed away from upgrading my Miller Visionary trades to HCs. This'll be so worth the wait.
This'll look sweet next to my Absolute Dark Knight.

Bocce balls!!!!
This is fantastic news. Love the X-Men omnibus (and hope they make more), so the Daredevil (which probably won't be oversized, either, unfortunately) is going to rock. Great uprgrade!
By the way, I've recently have gone nuts with Hardcovers since the X-Men omniubus and Daredevil (Bendis) volumes. I've got Absolute Watchmen, Absolute Dark Knight (these two are the definition of OVERSIZED!!!!), and V for Vendetta HC waiting on the shelf. And, I have Kraven's Last Hunt and Batman: Year One HC Deluxe on the way!

I love the oversized stuff. I have the Alias Omnibus next to my five Daredevil HC's. I also just bought Absolute Dark Knight, which looks good next to Absolute Watchmen, Absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths, Absolute Batman: Hush, and the oversized World's Greatest Superheroes. _________________ "Why should I be frightened of dying?

How was Millers initial run on DD from Elektra's appearence and onward? A poster above commented that it's not even comparable to Born Again. Even so, would anyone still give it a high recommendation? |

Many people will, I'm sure. Miller didn't hit his full stride until Born Again, but he certainly did write some good stuff other than just that arc.
I'd be safe to say if you look through other archived threads about Frank Miller, you're going to find more people who liked his work than didn't. _________________ Alice

If I tell you it's worth it, then you hate it, will you get all mad at me? I'd just get it in Visionaries, then if you like it well enough to invest the time and effort and money to buy the run, then do it. Trust your own judgment. It's the only one that matters. _________________ Alice

Thanks for the links, Ixiah. I'm well aware Millers run has been collected in such formats but I was looking more forward to owning the actual issues of his run. Would you say their worth the money it would take to collect them all? Would you say Miller's run is that good? |

After reading Yellow and the Man Without Fear, I just finished reading this for the first time today... it was fun to watch Miller's progress - and Janson's progress - over the course of the book as the writing and artwork really improved and the stories became tighter and more meaningful.
I just ordered Love's Labor Lost off the internet because I really want to see what happens between the Miller runs to Heather Glenn - and how Matt deals with it - because DD was certainly becoming a bit of an ass between bringing down Glenn Industries, trying to get -almost force - Heather to marry him, all while freaking out about Elektra - and of course Black Window came back to throw another wrench into things.
I look forward to reading the rest of the Omnibus Companion, including Born Again, after that. |

Love's Labor Lost only collects the latter half of Denny O'Neil's run on Daredevil, once David Mazzuchelli came on as penciller. I think O'Neil's run is one of the best in the history of the book, and it's really worth checking out from the beginning, with issue #194. It hasn't been collected, but the trip to the back issue bin is worth it. |

i liked how volume 2 and 3 of the Miller run filled in some gaps in DD's history but apart from Ben Urichs arc in volume 1, i could easily pass on it. not that big of a deal if you have the trades (unless there's additional stories not found in the trades). I don't know, Bendis Omnibus #2 was a good purchase and i had a few of the trades prior, you guys think this would be a good buy? |
