Figured someone should chip in here.
Spoilers for both issues so far.
I am finding the new Black Widow series. There is a bit of mystery and a big connection to Daredevil as of issue 2 where both Lady Bullseye and Elektra make appearances. You can tell that they are toeing the line between an avenger's Series and a personal series though because there are appearances by Tony Stark, Wolverine, James "Bucky" Barnes, and Pepper Potts but it makes sense to have her associate with these characters and so far it is coming down more on the character side of things. The why she is associating with these people. The connections that she has made are explored but not the focused on as the entire point of the series.
The Kingpin is involved. That much is clear from the involvement of Lady Bullseye, but the mystery is who else is involved? In the government, how far does this plot go and why they are targeting Natasha?
There is the unknown person who Wolverine met at the end of Issue one. But he has not revealed it to anyone. Tony Stark is quick to suspect Natasha while Cap and Wolverine stand beside her in secret, and not so secret ways.
My favorite character so far is Black Rose. I don't know if he has shown up before but I like him a lot. He is a former spy who no one will hire because he has gone a bit too mad, and you can't trust a crazy spy. So he spends his time giving the homeless and destitute a proper burial rather than leaving them to rot in the streets or be experimented on by various corporations or crime syndicates. And of course the greeting that he and Black Widow exchange is a fight. They even explain why Spies had superhero tags for names back in the day.
Now for some criticism A lot of this series is to show how much of a badass Natasha is. Being awake during surgery and not moving an inch to show it is cool and as I said makes her a badass but doesn't really add to the overarching story and they go directly from that to a story about how Natasha convinced a wife beater to divorce his wife because she goes to the same coffee shop as Natasha, that again shows her morals but if did that kind of thing every day she would never stop, and it doesn't add to the storyline other than to establish her relationship with Bucky.
Well that's my review. I hope I touched on everything. _________________ Random Insanity since.... Ummmmm... Tuesday? |
