The problem I have with that is mostly because I disagree with the third point. To me, it's a terrible introduction to the character because it's a complete deconstruction of the character. All the elements that have been established are laid bare, but it gives a misleading sense. You want to get a feel for the character as a whole, not when he's losing his mind.

He has several issues without a single bit of rational dialogue (or narration).

About the deconstruction, Miller executed it so well that how often was this aped and imitated by later writers? It lends itself to the overall perception (right or wrong) of the tragic nature of the character. So why not start with the best version of the deconstruction and one of the pillars of the tragic model?

On the flip side though, while Matt is deconstructed, BA is also about rebirth. Matt comes through this tragedy stronger and Miller highlights what may be the central appeal of Matt, that even at this lowest of points, he never gave up.

What's a better representation of the character than that?
