After hearing about this series for several years on word balloon podcasts, it was hard to go into this without some high expectations. I gave this a solid 4 rating. It gets a 5 for being an emotional read. I couldn't read the rest of my stack that night. So, it gets praise for messing with me. Wink It gets a 4 for the writing. I think the co-writing chemistry really worked well here. It gets a 3 for the art. This is where my expectations took a hit. I love Janson and I love Sienkiewicz, but having Bill ink/finish over Klaus didn't sit very well for me. It had a little too much grit for my taste. However, I did loved the last fight sequence involving the Kingpin. I thought the close ups showing Wilson's eyes were spot on. And Bill's painted panels? He still has the magic. I could read the whole story in this way.

Did anyone else think about q-tips and how painful they can be when you've gone in too far?

C.

Bendis drops three bombs: DD's death, DD killing the Kingpin and the oh so exciting mystery of his last words, but so far I'm unimpressed.
Bendis seems to be writing a sequel to his run, ignoring the rest of the continuity and giving excessive importance to his own. Also the whole "Ben investigating on Matt/DD and what happened to him" was a little more that repetition of what he already did in his run.

Hi. My first post here (I'll introduce myself in the proper section). I apologize in advance for my poor English.

IMHO End of Days gives us another misunderstanding of the character (as if we hadn't had enough already). First of all I don't understand why DD should be killed by Bullseye, when it's been observed many times that DD can beat him and has beaten him any time. And wasn't he supposed to be dead? My first guess reading the issue was that he wanted to be killed for some reason, which could be related to his “Mapone” last word. Oh well, I suppose it's just too soon to guess.

Anyway, I didn't like the issue a bit und I doubt I'll keep on buying it... as to the main question, i.e. is it supposed to be canon, unfortunately I disagree with what Francesco wrote some time ago in another thread (Bendis can say "oh it will be the true, official, canon end to DD" as much as he wants. repeat it to any online comic website he wants. stress it as much as he wants. It won't make it so). It will be canon from the sad moment some writer starts putting in the stories subtle references to DD's future death (such as DD saying "this stick is gonna be my death some day", very prequel-sequel-style à la Star Wars) This is my main concern at the present time. Basically it's all up to the writers' intellectual indipendence and to their will (and strenght) to ignore Bendis' story. No problems with Waid I guess, but... how about the next ones? Anyway, the moment such references begin to appear will be the moment I'll drop the book for good.
