Ok so no one liked End of Days so what would we have done differently? If DD has to go out then how would we have him go?
I would like something like a big crazy battle with enemies and he wins but seems mortally wounded and as he is dying he uses some sort of ninja magic to body jump into someone else and live out his days in peace and seclusion in a monastary in Japan. Actually the body jump thing sounds creepy written down.

Is this series still considered canon? |

Our wee fun series or Bendis's? Bendis thinks his is but I think everyone else in the world is disregarding it as a 'what if?', like 'what if Daredevil was written by an idiot?'. _________________ when walking just walk, when sitting just sit, above all don't wobble. |

For me the perfect ending would be DD going down fighting. And not just randomly fighting (as he was in End of Days) but fighting with a purpose and, in the end, dying for a purpose.
The "never give up" spirit has always been present for DD high water marks such as Born Again, Blind Alley and whatever the Namor fight was called. Repeatedly DD has put himself in situations where he is likely to die fighting but fights anyway because he's fearless (well, actually, he acts fearless even though he clearly has lots of fear). THAT'S the central point that makes the character great.
I think a great end would be him knowingly putting himself in such a dangerous situation and it finally going against him.
In contrast I don't even know if they explained why DD was fighting Bullseye other than that Bullseye had returned. And DD didn't die for any particular reason. He just lost the fight and got killed. Boo.
As for cannon - no. This turd will be thankfully forgotten eventually. _________________ JC

There is no way that End of Days is cannon. It completely disregarded anything written after Bendis' run. Probably because it was originally written before anything else had been written after Bendis' run. Because of this, it has many continuity errors.
But yeah don't get me started almost anything would have beaten this. It wasn't even the death with no purpose, but there were also so many other things that showed a blatant disregard for the character and his personality. Such as him having 20 different kids with every woman that he has ever dated, because that was just so cool and edgy and Matt is just such an irresponsible womanizing a-hole ugh. And then the big reveal after 8 issues is yet another kid UGH!
Anything would have beaten this. To keep on point I agree completely with James Castle. Have him go out with purpose fighting to the death against impossible odds for something good. Have Matt achieve some victory, even a slight one, in death. Like in Born Again, and Jack Murdock's death both times Matt and his father were defeated, but what made them good was that they stood up and fought anyway as underdogs, and even in defeat they had a small victory. Jack inspired his son, and Matt proved that material possessions and ones job are not what's important in life. This never say die, underdog quality is what makes DD great and the fact that Matt can spit in the eye of his enemies in the end is what makes those stories awesome. I guess that is what Bendis was trying to do, but it really didn't work. It needed to be more nuanced then that. And something more profound then "hey I have kids". _________________ "This ones for you Matt" - Jack Murdock |

Hahaha agree with everything you guys are saying. I have always been annoyed with the fact that Bendis is so acclaimed and yet failed to be able to write DDs power, he had no clue how to handle it, so in EOD he ignores it again and gives him a new power - super fertility! _________________ when walking just walk, when sitting just sit, above all don't wobble. |

And the kids (except, sigh, Mapone) are all around the same age. Which means he leaving them as babies basically and getting the next ex preggers within months. Bendis and Mack are idiots. _________________ JC

I've only read the first issue, but I've heard some disappointing-sounding spoilers. I remember first hearing about it when Brubaker was about to take over the main title and being really excited about it. Sigh. |

Honestly, "end of days" is unworthy of Bendis. The guy wrote an amazing arc (even if it wasn't perfect). He took maybe 3 or 4 years to write en "end" for DD, and he came with.... that !
It's ridiculous. The "Mapone" thing is ridiculous... In Daredevil Ninja, Baby Karen was already supposed to be the "reincarnation" of Stick. And the writer of this was someone called... "Brian Michael Bendis". Yes, Bendis just ignored his own work. It's just unforgivable.
There are so many plot holes that the story is a gruyere cheese. I agree with everything said above.
For fun, all of us should write "the end we imagined for DD", and the sad thing is that the worst of these "fan fictions" will be miles better that what the Bendis / Mack duo came with. |

I only read the first(the guy at my comic book shop gave it to me for free) but so far it wasn't that great. I had to reread the whole thing to even figure out it was bullseye who killed him. I wasn't hoping itd be better in the next 7 comics but obviously it's not. Would it worth buying the rest of the series? |

No. No. A million times no. It's annoying, boring and pointless. _________________ JC

I am wondering if End of Days would have better if it divided the story more equally between Matt's death and the mystery surrounding Matt's death. Perhaps build up Matt's death for a couple of issues and then have the mystery or do something with flashbacks to inter cut between the two time frames. |
