I think the story about dealing with being lawyer and vigilante is meant to be that lawyers aren't judge and jury. They don't get to decide who is bad and good they just do their job. Therefore being a lawyer is an emotionless, passionless job and Daredevil is Matt getting to stop people he thinks are bad. That's the best I could come up with. A massive stretch.

As said, it really wasn't good in anyway.

These kind of things make me laugh sometimes. You have a TV show that captures the exact reasons why a lot of people love the character yet the book can't get close. Similar to when Fraction was on Iron Man. His first two arcs were really good and while they started as the first film came out the book got worse and worse even though there was a hugely successful (if not entirely accurate) blueprint.

Hey, sorry for the late bump, but I finally read this story. As I've probably said before, I'm not close to caught up to present day with Waid's run. However, since it seemed to be fairly stand-alone, I decided to go ahead and get it (and it still took this long to do so, but I digress).

Anyway, I liked the Guggenheim story. It's not a lot, but it's a good argument for how Matt Murdock can be Daredevil and a defense attorney. I think this is relevant for the future since it seems they're abandoning that in favor of him being a prosecutor. Essentially, the idea is that a defense attorney's job is to test the system and make sure no one is convicted without proof. Even if you think they're guilty, that's no excuse to not provide them a good defense. Here, Matt thought the guy was guilty because he caught him red handed (setting this story early actually worked well by not having Matt trust his lie detector yet). He could easily have just pled him out (since it's what the client was at least willing to do) and everyone would have been happy. I will say there are ethical issues with the way Matt handled it (at a minimum, he should have talked to his client. Certainly, he should have pushed to reveal his information first), but it would have been less dramatic that way. There's also no way a first year lawyer would fly solo on a second degree murder trial.

BTW, I've seen mention of getting Matt's name wrong. I've looked twice and can't find it. Can anyone clue me in?

With the second story by Chris Samnee: Uh, so much for not reading ahead. I'm reading the old silver age stories too, but I'm only up to issue 48 and this one is issue 57. Yeah, I realize I've read lots of stories after 57, but not immediately after. And, frankly, I feel like I need to. Otherwise, this story doesn't make much sense. There's a brief battle with Diablo (I knew he was a FF villain, but I thought he was the Wizard on first glance) and then he ends up at Karen's doorstep. I feel like there's a point here, but someone else needs to clue me in on what it is.

Anyway, I gave it a 3. The first story is a 3 and a half. The second story is a 1ish, maybe 1.5. Frankly, the story feels so marginal that I feel fine just pretending it doesn't even exist. Plus I accidentally clicked on the submit vote button before I was certain I wanted to go with 3 and I feel like I now have to defend my decision.

IIRC, Matt's middle name was given as "Jack" near the end of the Guggenheim story. It's been established as "Michael" since the Brubaker run for sure. It may even have been stated back when Matt created Mike Murdock, though I'm not positive.

Ah, I found it. Literally the second to last panel. Must have somehow missed it when reading the story the first time. Not sure how that slipped through editing.

ETA: Do they still give out No-Prizes? Because I have an idea on how to rationalize it.
