Daredevil Message Board The Board Without Fear!
|
The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

The funny thing is we're all talking about the next team, when all we've got is this "volume" is ending, and Waid's statement that he and Samnee aren't going anywhere. Now, I still assume along with everyone else that the 50th anniversary and its sales potential dictates a new print volume and a new team... Waid's staying would waste the chance to bring in new readers and bring back old ones. But Waid's continuing with the digital was a surprise.
It's hard to say what DD was before Miller. He was all over the place, alternating between joking like Peter Parker and being more serious, between being light-hearted and a slightly darker Batman type. With the art, it almost depended on the inker. E.g., Giacoia on Colan was dark shadows, while Tartaglione was cartoonish lines... and they alternated issues. But the noir potential was always there... I think it goes with the blindness, even if that sounds like a cliche.
I guess I wouldn't touch the suit either, since I seem to be one of the few people on earth who liked the armored suit. There was a logic to it... unlike, Batman, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, he has no weapons and it's hard to have him project any power when all he can do is punch people and swing around in spandex. At least, he should have martial arts abilities at a super-high level like Iron Fist and be able to control his senses. It's ridiculous that he can still be defeated by loud noise.
Ideally, I want the noir back and I'm not enthused about San Francisco. And realistic art, not Rivera'a unshadowed lines or Samnee's crude cartoons. I guess San Francisco could mean a return of BW, which would be fine and certainly has sales potential, what with her being in three movies while Marvel's been ignoring her history with DD. |

'Return to darker roots' may feel fresh in terms of quality, but it also sounds like a stone's throw away from heaping undue tragedies upon Matt again. Frankly, I was tired of Matt suffering nervous breakdowns every 20 issues or so.
I've enjoyed Waid's run so far so I'm glad he's elected to remain for the foreseeable future. But if a print title does come back soon, I feel the most significant change will be the price up to $3.99. |

Well, just read that DD ends with #36 and Mr. Waid will continue in digital form only with some roadtrip something or other. Oh well, as the plot points got wackier--DD headless, the mutant bugs or whatever they were starting a rainstorm to quell a street riot--I've lost interest anyway. I guess now is a good time to get acquainted with more of the first series DD comics. The new stuff was fun while it lasted. Sort of. |
