I've always considered the Marvel Universe one (for the most part) universe where any hero could have a run in with any villain. I've never felt DD was "stealing" villains.

But a lot of those villains have better chemistry with other heroes because they have more of a defined and interwoven history with that other hero. Let's take Klaw for example, for DD he is just another criminal to foil, for Black Panther he is the man who murdered his father, DD fighting Klaw would fun for a bit, but Klaw can never really be a member of DD's rogues gallery.

Its the same deal for some DD's rogues, Bullseye vs. Spider-Man might be an interesting fight, but it have the same chemistry as a DD vs. Bullseye fight. DD needs more villains he can a personal rivalry with, rather borrowing villains from others.

It all starts somewhere. The same was said when Frank Miller brought The Kingpin into DD. Now Kingpin is considered one of DD's greatest foes.

Sure, it doesn't hurt to try develop some of the villains DD already has in his rogues gallery, which only seem to appear once in a blue moon. Maybe someone could make a cool story with Mr. Hyde or Bushwacker or Bullet, etc.

Back in the 80s, the Spider-Man team had no intention of using Kingpin again, so Miller had no problem taking him and really in the Spider-Man universe Kingpin was just a fish in the ocean, in the DD universe, he was a large fish in a small pond. Again its hard for Klaw to become a DD villain, when he has so much personal history with Black Panther. Kingpin was never as personal a foe to Spidey as Klaw was to BP, until that silly story where Kingpin had Aunt May shot, which has no consequences at this point, after One More Day.

I don't have any problems seeing DD have the occasional fight with someone else's villian. We've seen it during the Mark Waid run with Klaw, Mole Man and Aim and Hydra. Actually I find it kind of fun to see that every once in a while.

Now if they decide to take another character's villain and turn him into a permanent foe for DD's rogues gallery then they need to set up the proper context for it. I mean they need to come up with a really good reason for it. You don't want another storyline where a character comes out of nowhere like Mysterio, who never even crossed DD's path before, to destroy Daredevil's life for really no appearent reason, it just won't fit and makes no sense.

The Kingpin came from Spider man's rogues and became a HUGE (no pun intented) villian for DD and it fit perfectly because at the time he had gone away from mostly fighting super villians and was attacking more street level and organised crime. So the Kingpin fit into that villian role for him so well.

I have no problem with DD fighting sometimes ("sometimes" is the important word in the sentence) someone else villian. It ground him in the Marvel universe and break the false impression that he is the weakest character in the MU (when ironically, chracters like the Black Widow or Hawkeye aren't more powerfull, they have even fewer powers)

That being said, I prefer that writers focus on DD's own rogue gallery and expend it.

That's exactly what Mark Waid did.

As for Kingpin, people seemed to forget that before Miller, Wilson Fisk (who was then unamed) was a C-lister (well, B lister at best) in Spiderman rogue gallery.

He had potential, of course (he was a strategist and a mob boss), but he was too weak (in term of powers) to be a real challenge for Spiderman.

He was just a lame villian who punched Spidey with his belly.

Miller took him and inserted him in noir stories, and the Kingpin was then use at his true potential.

I would love for some really old DD villains to come back. Two people that come to mind are the masked marauder and starr Saxon. The masked marauder was the first villain to come close to discovering daredevils identity and starr Saxon was the first person to actually find it out and use it against DD. Now I know starr is machinesmith now but I would still like to see him pop up in DD comics everyone in a while.

It might be fun to Starr Saxon again.

As for Masked Marauder, let's face it Frank Farnum was never an interesting character and it wouldn't be very interesting to see DD fight his old land lord. I think they should kill off Farnum and replaced him with a new Masked Marauder, a mysterious new foe who is making a play to become NYC's top crime boss. Make it a big mystery story line about who the Masked Marauder really is similar to the Green Goblin and Hobgoblin mysteries in the Spidey books, that is more interesting then seeing DD fight his old land lord.

I think a lot DD villains can be interesting, but most need a revamp.

That would make sense. I kind if forgot the masked marauder was a landlord(man was that anti climatic). A new one would be very interesting though. Daredevil can always use a good mystery. Although, I'm not really sure how they can hide their identity from DDs radar sense. Back then that would have passed, but now it would make a lot of people angry. Good idea though. If marvel really wanted the idea I'm sure they could find a way to pull it off.

Well it depends on how they handle it, they could have so the Masked Marauder's true identity character only really interacts with Foggy, not Matt, so we get to know the character, but there is a reason that Matt can't identify that person as the Masked Marauder.

Or they could have the Masked Marauder study Daredevil/Matt Murdock and develop technology that counters his senses. Matt's ID is basically public knowledge now, Mr. Fear was able to counter DD's super senses in the Brubaker run. Heck even back in the Silver age, Mysterio was able to discover Spidey's Spider Sense and develop a counter to it, so its not that unheard of. That could also make the Masked Marauder a very dangerous foe.

Really anything would be better then bringing Frank Farnum back, because he is a generic and uninteresting character and would make for an generic and uninteresting story.
