Diggle might've been the weakest of Volume 2 but I didn't think he was bad. It was a cool concept and it was executed well at the start. The DD books were as cool as all of Bendis and Brubaker. It's just that Shadowland the series was awful. |

When, not so long ago, I had to drop DD (and all of my other books for money reasons), DD had been one of Marvel's best books for years, and Ed Brubaker had just went to work on it and looked as if he was going to maintain that high standard. Coming back, it seems as if the book has followed so many great Marvel runs of recent years in dramatically crashing and burning. I haven't read any of Diggle's work, but "Shadowland" sounds as if it would require scientific notation to properly express, in mathematical terms, how completely idiotic it is. The idea alone must rank it among the all-time worst DD material. I'm astonished to find that it was even printed--it literally sounds like something that exists solely because someone behind the scenes lost a huge bet.
I would probably have named Chichester as the worst DD writer, or maybe even Stan Lee at his worst (and, while he did some really great DD work, some of his worst '60s work was published in DD also). Diggle's "Shadowland" idea alone makes him a strong candidate.
However bad he was, though, I suspect we're about to see him topped as the book is saddled with Mark Waid. I cringe at the thought of Waid being unleashed on DD. It hurts to check in after such a relatively brief absence and find out this is the state of affairs with the book. |

As Kevin Smith said, "You'd think we killed Jesus when we killed Karen, but look...nobody gave a **** before we did anything. Nobody was buying Daredevil, nobody cared about Daredevil, much less Karen Page."
I agree with him. It gave us great story.
Shadowland was a horrifyingly bad event, mostly because it was mismanaged and just butchered creatively. Everything before that was great. The idea of Daredevil trying to lead The Hand was excellent.
Chichester for me.

The only good thing about Diggle's run is that anybody who comes afterwards will do a better job |
