This issue is good but a bit off for me.
Elektra saying "when she led The Hand". I thought it was a Skrull that led the hand.
Daimyos and White Tiger saying DD finally killed someone. So, they were aware that Izo was not really killed and yet they let Matt lead The Hand. Or am I missing something here?
But aside from those two points. I loved this issue. de la Torre's Typhoid Mary is awesome. Wait...Typhoid Mary! Afters not appearing in 80 issues of DD, we finally se her back. Wish to see Echo soon as well. I am gonna miss de la Torre next month.
Still not blown away by Shadowland. But so far, I am enjoying a lot. _________________ "I'm only a DEVIL to those who are demonic." |

So, Daredevil has been possessed by an evil force that is taking him over? Like Jean Grey and the Phoenix? Maybe he'll die by his own hand, then be found in a cocoon at the bottom of a river by the Fantastic Four.
Anyway, I see what they've done here. Matt's not technically responsible for killing Bullseye, but since he physically stabbed the guy, he's going to have the weight of that death on him going forward.
I've said this before, but I'm happy Bullseye is dead. Everything that can be said and done with him has been said and done. As bad-ass as he is, he's no Joker or Magneto.
When Izo says, "You know what you have to do" to Elektra, we're supposed to read that as, "You have to kill him", but I'm pretty sure what he means is, she's going to have to do a ninja-magic exorcism to rid Matt of this "black flower" those old ninja dudes slipped into his coffee.
Finally, I, too like de la Torre's art much better than the other guy. It's so close to Maleev's style, and that's what I'm used to after all these years. A big change in art style at this point would just be shocking to my senses. (See what I did there? And by accident, too.) |

If they have Elektra kill Matt, it will be one of the very best endings if they pull it off right. As in, if the build up is right.
That's be a poetic death if ever there was one. |

Elektra was already leading of the Hand when she was attacked by the skrulls and then replaced. All of this was narrated ina New Avengers issue, tie-in to secret invasion.
About Izo, I think they let Matt believe he had fooled them, so as to give him the illusion that he was in control, and so his self-damnation could eventually be more genuine (and I think this was the whole point of their plan: in order to be truly corrupted, he had to make an atrocious act entirely on his will). |

My problem is that if Shadowland is about how this affects EVERYONE, why isn't Daredevil's title about Daredevil? |

It's a choice.
I feel it too - my character, my #1 character in this world, is not really here anymore. In recent times, especially in the last Brubaker story, Matt was only one character in his own book. You don't necessarily follow him and agree with him or understand him all the time. Now, we really don't identify anymore. (If they wrote it from his perspective at ALL, I think we would. Bullseye got what was coming to him - if he's really dead, but I doubt it. Anyway . . he's like a stranger to us right now in the comics, sorta unfortunately, yes, but it's serving the story.
I'm enjoying the event so far, though my hopes were a little higher -- I felt Shadowland 1 & 2 were too quick to read and not that great but the Daredevil issues are as solid as always. It's just beginning so don't give up yet, anybody.
I'm digging reading the other characters who are more classic DD than DD has been in a while -- Shroud, Colleen Wing, etc. Cool. |

Thanks Francesco for the Elektra bit. And good analysis on Master Izo's "death". You just made me love #509 more.
People, check out 2nd Printing variants of DD #501 and #508. How cool is de la Torre on cover? Awesome right? I don't know why a cover artist is needed when you have a great artist like de la Torre. _________________ "I'm only a DEVIL to those who are demonic." |

I think Typhiod Mary could become a big player in this story, she is a wild card who the Hand cannot corrupt and who in the past has influenced Matt to a massive level, is it a coincidence that his conversation with her is about the only bit of chat where the old Matt has crept in? Another good issue that showcases the little points in-between.
Liked the Elektra-Izo part. Ironic how Elektra is now the one to save Matt from the dark. The comment about how the 'Pure Adept' has finally been corrupted was chilling to read.
What really hurts though is Foggy's reactions, how he believes he can help Matt turn himself around. "I'm his oldest friend".
I think Foggy will have a bigger part to play yet. |
