|
|
Im following one of the recommended reading lists, and after Miller/Janson Vol.3, it says Elektra Assassin.
However, I want to read Love's Labor Lost because I know it has something to do with Heather Glenn, and I want to see her character's exit.
So in terms of reading order, should I read Assassin first or Love's Labor Lost?
Also, how necessary is Elektra Lives Again? Its pretty expensive, so is it worth reading before Born Again. Or is it something I can get back to at a later time?
Thank you. |

If you are into the Heather Glenn plot, than check out Love's Labors Lost. I think it's excellent. Denny O'Neil's run on Daredevil is one of my favourites. Although before you read it, you may want to hunt through some back-issue bins for O'Neil's books that preceded this collection, specifically, 194-202, 204-207 and 210-214. They shouldn't be too expensive, and they haven't been collected. Love's Labors Lost references events happening in these issues -- specifically dealing with Debbie Nelson and the introduction of Glorianna O'Breen.
Frank Miller really moved the comic medium forward with Elektra: Assassin. You owe it to yourself to check it out. But there is debate as to wear it fits in with canon. In fact, if you look up Elektra's entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, it seems that the powers that be decided that the events in Elektra: Assassin take place before she encountered Daredevil in #168. So you might as well read Love's Labors Lost first. They're pretty independent of each other.
As for Elektra Lives Again, it's not really necessary, but it is a good story. Maybe you can find a deal on eBay? |

Frank Miller's Elektra books are in a world of their own. I think Elektra Assassin is one of the greatest comic books ever, period. It's totally psychological and dreamlike. It stands completely on its own. Elektra Lives Again is good too, but it's totally different. ELA was meant to be the final death of Elektra, and Frank Miller said in an online interview that she's still dead according to him.
Love's Labors Lost is good too. But the two Elektra books are outstanding. You can find everything cheap eventually. |

Agreed, read Love's Labors Lost first, it's pretty excellent. Elektra: Assasin and Elektra Lives Again are also excellent, but I'm not sure either of them are canon. Definitely come back to them though.
If you haven't read Love and War yet you should definitely check that out, especially if you like Bill Sienkiewicz's art. |

Thanks everybody. Love's labor lost I shall read first then. And i've found those back issues mentioned too. Thanks.
As for Love and War, I have it in the Miller collection vol.3. Its a stand alone GN aswell right? Or is it better to read it after I've read some of the other stuff? |

Yes, Love And War was originally released as a stand alone GN in 1986, but it definitely takes place before Born Again, sometime during Miller's original run. I can't remember if it takes place before or just after Elektra's death though. I'd definitely recommend reading it before Born Again. |
