i can't pull exact examples of issues off the top of my head, but there have been times that this has happened. i enjoy instances like that. heroes with "feet of clay" have always been more interesting to me the someone like superman. |
I think you're right. The things that come to mind are a couple of times he's consciously avoided very large crowds for fear of becoming disoriented. Even his "I don't like parties, they give me a headache" excuse to lily in the Devil Takes a Ride arc might be tied up in this as well. Might not be to the point where he can't sense his surroundings, but probably an environment where he might have to try a little harder to keep his focus. Another instance that comes to mind was during Chichester's run (#297), when he goes to meet Karen, thinking "Tap-tapping my way down through Astoer Place today is more than just going through the motions. It's up to the blind man in me to make his way around pot holes and street peddlers while my hypersenses lose themselves in her." So, I guess if he completely spaces out, then... I don't know.
I guess my whole point was that while he doesn't have a choice, in the lager scope of things, the amount of "faking it" that he engages in feels easier to defend if it isn't all fake.
To JC: If you don't see the difference between Storm deciding not not to bring down a tornado while she's at the mall and Matt actively moving his cane back and forth and engaging in various so-called blind techniques, that is up to you.
Another thing, In my last post I invited you to meet me in the middle somewhere. I opened the door for you to step up to the plate and speak to me in a respectful manner. Instead you claim that everything I say is invalid because of some idea you have about my political stance. Get this straight: You don't know me - at all. Like I said, I thought that you were ready to end this in a civil way. Now I'm sure I want no further dialogue with you.

Why would I meet you in the middle? What's in the middle of right and wrong? Kinda right? Sorta wrong? I'll stay right where I am thank you.
I don't think you're wrong because of your political stance (although it certainly doesn't help). I think you're wrong because you wildly mischaracterized Nocenti, write overlong posts that don't say anything and allude to "research" you clearly haven't done.
I keep trying to pointing out more detailed reasons why you're wrong [here's another one: according to your theory of active/passive hiding the further from "normal" a character appears, the more morally compromised he is (what a disgusting thought!(that you had!))] but you just ignore me and state your conclusions again with no relevant discussion.
And, no, I don't know you. But I certainly don't have to know the finer details of someone's life to point out when they're wrong. 2+2=4 no matter what colour your hair is.
Still, you're entitled to your opinion. You're even entitled to it when it's wrong. Which it is.
Also: you don't know me either.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.
Politically, the Socialist party currently in office in my country is too conservative for my views. My vote goes to a coalition (at the left of the Socialists, certainly) which includes Communists and Greens, and is part of the current local government. I collaborate with that party on elections (in fact I represent them at the tables at the voting polls). I am a blue-collar worker: I work with a printing machine in a printhouse, therefore I'm quite the prototypical proletarian (albeit without prole).
Having said so, I agree with Christine that a blind person might be displeased by the way Tyrone's handicap is described in Nocenti's story (I'm not blind so, of course, I can't tell for certain how actually a blind person would feel about it).
Incidentally, I quite like the Nocenti run on average (and more as I re-read it), yet I feel that liking it doesn't mean that it is unavailable for criticism or opinion.
Again, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. But then that doesn't mean we might be open to just be aware of other views: I am a non-theist and I am able to enjoy Mike Allred's comics (Allred is a Mormon).
