I'd like to read another DD story by De Matteis

OK. Don't hit me... yet Razz . Please heed my words first, O gentle sentients!

To many DD fans the name of J.M: De Matteis brings memories of a villain, "Sir", who wouldn't be found among a "Ten best DD villains ever" list, precisely (but would surely qualify for a "Most Bizarrely Freudian Villain" award )

In order to be fair to Mr. De Matteis' work, he had to close the Jack Battlin era (aka Grey arnoured suit times) and bring back the pieces of Matt Murdock life together: this brought back Karen and Foggy back to the scene, and prepared the scene for the Sunny Kesel Run... so I'm ultimately positive about his work in the series.

I have the theory that, had De Matteis been more free to do other thing than "a job to do" clearing previous developments from DD, we could have had some interesting stories.

I am saying that I'd like De Matteis writing another DD story because, well, I am currently reading the glorious "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League" by Messrs. Giffen, De Matteis, Maguire & Rubinstein... a story in which, among other things, the authors prove that you can do a good story with Sue Dibny without having her do the Karen Page act.... and, well...

I was just dreaming of a story (one-shot, mini-series, whatever... ) by that creative team, in the same spirit of their JLA-JLI riotous work: yes, a Daredevil story with the spirit of "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League".

Maybe we've had a lot of angsty, tragic Murdock for too long: anyone feels like seeing the sunny side up again? Anyone for a healthy bit of Bwah-Ha-Happiness?

I like DeMatteis too, and I enjoyed his work on Daredevil. I agree with you, Gloria-- it was basically a clean-up job, and a very necessary one. He should have been given the opportunity to carry on a little bit longer and let everybody see where he would take Daredevil next.

And as I've said before numerous times, I like Sir. I even sought out the rest of Sir's appearances in Spectacular Spider-Man. I like all that psychodramatic stuff.

I've enjoyed a lot of what DeMatteis did with Spider-Man. It's also greatly worth it to search out a Legends of the Dark Knight story he did called Faces. Psychodrama is his specialty. Maybe that's not everybody's cup of tea, but I'll take it every time. I would love to se him get another chance with Daredevil.

To quote the new White Stripes album: "the way you clean up a wreck is enough to give one pause."

Dimetre, while not enthusiastic about "Sir", I must admit that using transgender characters is not an usual step in comics, so one must say that De Matteis was quite original at that.(though I wonder if that arose any complaints from transgender rights groups: I mean, it was not a pleasing way to present them).

Incidentally, I've liked some "serious" (I mean, not In LJA-ja-ja style) De Matteis stories I've had the chance to read, too: among them is "Spiderman: The Lost years". Take it from someone who's not currently very fond of the webcrawler and HATES clone stories... it was like the story of Spiderman that people could write if not enslaved to the franchise, a on-the-road, gritty and bitter-sweet tale of a guy in search of himself: It is interesting De Matteis was free to write that story, as it was about a clone... he would have probably not been allowed to do that story with the actual Peter Parker.

So, yes, De Matteis could write a tremendous DD story with more serious undertones, and this being Matt Murdock, he wouldn't need to clone him in order to have him go through harrowing experiences Laughing

I actually liked DeMatties's run on DD too Gloria (although it has been so long since I have read it now) so you are not alone out there. It was great to see DD back to form after the long and painful armoured DD stories before it. These stories may not have been perfect but I think he did his best trying to restore the comic. If anything it was refreshing to see the old costume(s) back and to see some good legible artwork again too. It was a lot better than people give it credit for I believe. Plus Foggy found out that Matt was DD too so these issues are kind of milestones when you think about it.

I have read some of his other comic work too (hey he even wrote some of the Justice League cartoon episodes too which I love!) and enjoyed it, so I'd be happy to see him do some DD work again.

Mmmh! Seems I didn't drop such a lone gunwoman idea after all, as obviously there is people warming to the concept.

Well, I'll now climb my soapbox with a megaphone:
"Alló? Moshi Moshi? Que m'escooolten? any thinking head of the House of Ideas reading this? Please take note: a one-shot, a mini, an annual, a crossover with Squirrel Girl... WHATEVER! But give De Matteis the chance to write a nice brand-new story about Daredevil"

Huh... yes, I forgot:

"While keeping Brubaker in the regular series, OF COURSE"

DeMatteis is my favorite Spidey writer not named Stan Lee. Like Dimetre touched on, he can really delve deeply into a character's psyche. Too deep for some, but I love that stuff. During the, dare I mention it, clone saga, DeMatteis' issues were the only ones that kept me involved and wanting more. Reading the current arc in Amazing S-M gives me an unncessary reminder of how great ASM #400 was.

I'd love to see what he could do with Matt Murdock unfettered by mopup duty, but like you said Gloria, not at the expense of the current DD team. I'm not up on the Battlin' Jack issues, but I believe DeMatteis could do a bang up job with Sister Maggie.

Neilan, indeed, NEVER at the expense of the current creative team, whom I hope will stay in the series for a long time... But there's always time & space for a mini-series, or even a fill-in or two to allow Brubaker, Lark et al. to have a well deserved rest for a short while.

Like Francesco, I agree that De MAtteis would be a fine writer to Tackle Sister Maggie... But then we're talking about a writer who can make me like Guy Gardner! Laughing So I bet he could make a fine story about any member of the DD cast: i.e. I'd like to hear a good story about Becky Blake, or Rosalind Sharpe
