Issue Summary

Summary by Eric Shaw

Crouched on a roof top Daredevil opens this story reflecting on a J. Jonah Jameson editorial excoriating super-powered vigilantes. He wonders if this line of thinking is what recently turned Foggy against him. His thoughts are interrupted though by the sounds of police sirens at a nearby jewelry store. He quickly swings into action and just as quickly gets pinned down with the cops by the "gun crazed maniacs." This allows DD to be distracted from the subject of our first scene change; the Black Widow. Schushing the swiss alps her thoughts too are revealed to be about Matt Murdock. She and Ivan return to the lodge to find a note addressed to Natasha from a Dr. Emil Borgdsky. He requests dinner with her and Ivan thinks it would help her relax. The chalet lobby reveals Mister Kline aka The Assassin! At dinner Dr. Borgdsky tells Natasha that he had to leave their mother land because of interference in his search for a cure to blindness!

Meanwhile back at the crime scene in NY, Daredevil moves in on the crooks and takes them out 1-2-3. Foggy shows up and tries to explain to DD how the whole Black Widow trial and acquital came about because of the mechenations of a Mr. Kilne blackmailing him. DD swings home and immediately gets a call from Natasha asking Matt to come to Switzerland!

Seventeen hours later Matt and Natasha reunite and she fills him in on the Doctor who could restore Matt's vision. As soon as Matt meets Brodgsky he scenses something is amiss. Back in their room Natasha and Matt find comfort in each others arms.

Later 'ol Horn Head goes creeping around after Dr. Brodsky. He suspects that the good Doctor and Kline are the same person. He comes across The Assassin reporting in to something called Baal. The Assassin talks of breaking a time line in the Twentieth Century by having demoralized Franklin Nelson from running for Governor. The purposes appears to be to prevent Ball from being the sole occupant of earth twelve thousand years in the future. A great disaster needs to be averted and DD has been drawn to Switzerland for just that reason. Behind The Assassin we see clear chambers containing what appear to be the Scorpion and Mr. Hyde. Suddenly DD is spotted and apparently needs to be destroyed for having appeared at The Assassins hideout. In the dust up it is revealed that Baal in the is a machine made by man to control their world. To ensure his surrvival DD need to have his sight restored and thus neutralized. But it is Daredevil that rubs out The Assassin in the ensuing battle. The Black Widow walks in the hideout just as DD is finishing up and quickly exit as The Assassin goes haywire. Two mysterious figures that have lurked in the background thus far now confront The Assassin and vow to end his madness. They are from a time after Baal's death! Destroying The Assassin and transporting our heros to safety the strangers ask Natasha and Matt to accept their entwined fates and enjoy the life!

Note: Mistake by Stan Lee in referencing issue numbers 84 and 85; Iron Man comics referenced as a similar plot; The Strangers also appeared in Submariner #42. Letter from Fred Hembeck in Let's Level With Daredevil.
